COMPETITION PHOTOS SUPER COMP SERIES

Reading, Pa – Maple Grove Raceway hosted race #3 & #4 for the Competition Photos Super Comp Circuit on July 10th& 11th. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans on Saturday and washed out Race #3. Sunday was a whole different story as nice sunny skies greeted racers in the morning. Seventeen Cars made attempts at the #1 Qualifying spot but in the end it was Mike Hoff from Hanover, Pa who laid down a perfect 8.900 to claim the spot. Following Hoff was Scott Lorish, Bruce Combs, Ashley Senft and Frank Lauria. As eliminations got underway it would be a familiar face to the Maple Grove Winners Circle as Kathy Smulligan claimed victory in her Cressman Dragster. Smulligan started her march too the winner’s circle with victories over Ashley Senft and Randy Winfelder Jr. In the 3rd round Smulligan lined up against 2009 Division 1 Champ Tom Slater’s 2006 Dragster with the winner receiving a bye into the final. At the green Slater took a huge lead with a .014 to .058 starting line advantage but missed the set-up and ran way too fast with an 8.822 to Smulligan’s winning 8.893. On the other side of the ladder was Bruce Combs from New Windsor, Md. Combs drove his 2008 Dragster to wins over Kristin Moeser, Randy Winfelder Sr and a bye-run in the 3rd round to line up against Ed Meyer. As the tree flashed Combs got a huge advantage with a .027 to .063 starting line advantage and in a close tight end battle Combs hung on for an 8.908 to 8.903 win. The Final was set with Smulligan against Combs but it was over quickly as Bruce went .016 red and handing the win the Kathy who legged it out too an 8.895 victory. With the victory Smulligan takes over the early points lead. The next event for the Super Comp Crew will be at Atco Raceway on August 7th & 8th and Maple Grove Raceway August 14th & 15th.
